The Building Control system exists to make sure that buildings are properly designed and constructed so as to ensure the health, safety, welfare and convenience of people using them.
Delivering best value
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is now part of a joint building control company with six other local authorities in Hertfordshire. As of August 2016 the council's building control team, and all building control work, has been transferred to a company called Broste Rivers LA7 Ltd. The company is entirely owned by the seven authorities and will carry out public sector building control work on their behalf, delivering best value to customers.
Officers will continue to undertake their normal day-to-day activities and site inspections as professionally accredited building control surveyors, and the council will continue to determine applications and carry out other building control activities on the basis of their professional advice.
The Building Control division of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council administers the Building Regulations. The division deals with Building Regulations applications, ensures that the requirements of the Regulations and the Building Act are fulfilled and advises on building works.
Staff are always happy to discuss your proposals or any problems you may have. We recognise that some aspects of the Building Regulations are complex and even determining whether or not permission is required can be complicated.
It is always better to seek advice at the earliest opportunity to avoid possible problems at a later stage. Please contact us if you require any advice or further information. Please note the Building Control Officers are out on site visits from 10.30am to 4pm.
If you make a Building Control application, details of your application including applicant, agent, description of works and site address may be placed on this website.

Building Control fees
Fixed fee tables have been produced for many categories of work. For work outside of these categories an independently determined charge will apply based on the amount of office time and inspections required, calculated using information supplied by the applicant.
Final inspections requested over 5 years after the last inspection is carried out will attract a charge of £195.84 payable in advance.
